Some people who haven't seen the premiere should be warned that it might not be worth the investment, as well as anyone who only likes Dethklok's sound and wouldn't want it any other way. Regardless, this is about the soundtrack, and if you liked the Doomstar Requiem, the soundtrack is really nice to have. In fact, I personally feel the story is even strengthened if you watch the show once and then listen to the music, as the pictures you place in your mind tend to be a lot cooler than the animation done by Brendon Small, which was slightly downgraded in the actual video.

The story itself is easily recognizable and can be followed using just the soundtrack.

I feel that either way it is brilliantly put together, and while it still holds up to the goofy band's funny standards, it takes on a whole new meaning with some epic storyline action going on. This 'soundtrack' just confirms what Galaktikon tried to claim, which is that Brendon Small is a musical shapeshifter, and a damn fine one too.īeing that this is indeed a soundtrack, I will focus less on how the plot is presented without visuals, and more so on the actual work being done. Many people, both seasoned dethklok fans and newbies alike, have said that the 'klok opera' rock opera was funny, metal, and entertaining.

The Doomstar Requiem - A Klok Opera (soundtrack) is not only fantastically composed, well written, catchy and very metal, but it's plot can be followed with or without the video to back it up. That being said, the scene featuring the song ‘Partying Around the World’ should be a national treasure.When the Doomstar Requiem first came out, there was rarely controversy regarding the plot, animation, and music work, but there were certainly a few who claimed it was all downhill from here for Dethklok and Brendon Small. I wouldn’t bother with the soundtrack unless you have seen the special a few times and can’t live without it. Listening to The Doomstar Requiem album sans animation is actually pretty boring unless you’ve seen it at least once. Having the visuals to accompany the music definitely makes the soundtrack far more tolerable than it would be on its own. That’s not necessarily a bad thing in the right context, I was just expecting something decidedly more brutal than what was delivered. There are a few interesting riffs that I would have liked to see pan out but it is primarily filled with softer ballads. Dethklok is marketed as a metal band and this production is more of a taste of Broadway with some electric guitars thrown in. Musically, the album leaves much to be desired. This works out well for a few scenes, most notably the flashback detailing Toki’s guitar duel with Skwisgaar and his subsequent recruitment into the band. Time that could have been spent developing it further is instead devoted to elaborate musical numbers. The storyline itself is also nothing to write home about. The television show’s toilet humor doesn’t mix well with the sound of a fifty piece orchestra and feels as though it is trying entirely too hard at times. In doing so, the musical misses the mark. The Doomstar Requiem takes everything great about Metalocalypse, its humor, metal, and kooky hijinks, and tries to turn them into a tale larger than life itself. I don’t say that because it is a masterpiece, but because the soundtrack falls flat without our favorite animated metal band’s shenanigans. Brendon Small’s rock opera is something that needs to be seen to be believed. Dethklok is a show/band that you either hate or you love that has never been more apparent than with the release of The Doomstar Requiem – A Klok Opera (BS Records).

Dethklok rock opera
